Audience Member A very good and educational movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Octonauts: The Ring of Fire seems like the perfect lockdown movie. Themes of separation, teamwork and technical difficulty perfectly bind together the complex, interwoven narrative with engaging, well-paced action. Whilst there were some flaws in the scientific aspects of the ship design, these can be written off as simple conveniences to keep the plot moving. Nothing really feels out of place: the film expertly captures what made this mainstay, this icon of children's programming, so great. My criticisms are few and minimal; namely, 'whale ex machina' felt ever so slightly forced, and the 'training video' cuts seemed tiresome towards the end. However, I will look back on the pacing and plot design with superb admiration. Particularly of note is the damaged testing facility chase scene involving the green, inexplicably Texan, rabbit and the orange cat. The action and suspense here was miles ahead of anything the most recent Star Wars films could pull-off. The emotional core of the film is orange cat's relationship with his mentor: the ubiquitous Captain Barnacles. The young feline's struggles to live up to his idol's impressive credentials is felt by all. The weighty themes of race creep in as the cat reckons with the hard truth that he will never be as strong as a Polar Bear. It resonated with me powerfully. Overall, Octonauts: The Ring of Fire was a heart-wrenching, high-stakes emotional thrill ride. I simply can't wait for it to get snubbed by Pixar at the Oscars. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member My daughter loved this. I loved it because it's around an hour and a half, so I could get things done. Great show that teaches so much about the oceans and sealife. As usual the graphics are great with lots of detail and color. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
