Synopsis
A compilation of old black-and-white footage from Italy, Austria, Russia and other European countries ravaged by World War I and its aftermath, this disturbing documentary from director Yervant Gianikiani focuses on humanity's capacity to do damage to itself in the name of military triumph. Though decades-old, the graphic images of dead and dying soldiers, underfed children, prisoners of war and other unfortunates remain urgent, haunting and profound.
