Louie, a wealthy writer, returns to his beleaguered hometown after his father passes away. The town, a weathered setting, and its people, equally worn, have served as the spiritual muses for Louie's popular, rustic anthology. Upon his return, Louie is reunited with his childhood friends, the very same people he utilized as central characters in his pretentious novels. Thus ensues a confusing swirl of nostalgia and enmity as Louie is dragged from party-to-party, coming face-to-face with those whose lives he's exploited for his own financial gain. But soon, as his grip on reality slips, he begins to wonder if these ostensibly simple townsfolk don't have their own version of payback in mind.

“Okie” leaves us contemplating whether the things we tell ourselves about our own lives may be acts of self-deception. The result is a simply told story that, nevertheless, has some disturbing questions directed to us just below the surface. Go to Full Review

Big G Apr 20 This was filmed just minutes from my hometown and Kate Cobb hit the nail on the head in regard to what the people are like and what returning back to a small, rural community is like after having moved to a city. The acting was good all around, the cinematography was pretty standard, and the story was engaging, although it left something to be desired. A good movie that I would recommend to anyone who has grown up in, and moved away from, a small hick town. See more Lauren R 11/10/2024 Cobb perfectly captured the nuance of returning home - the nostalgia and the innate resentment we feel projected onto us. Beautiful cast and beautiful film! See more Kelly W 11/08/2024 Kate Cobb delivers a remarkable directorial debut that brings a nuanced, unflinching eye to the bittersweet realities of returning home. See more Read all reviews
