Synopsis
Italian experimental filmmakers Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi use found footage from the early 20th century to make commentaries on the documentation of history. The second of a trilogy of films on World War I, it combines distorted footage shot in the Alps on the Austrian/Italian border, circa 1915-18, with readings from the diaries of soldiers serving in the mountains. The eerie, evocative effects create a sad meditation on the fate of these wartime soldiers.
