Jelisije J A movie that was banned in the U.S. because it made the U.S. look bad in how they treated their Catholic Irish soldiers in the Spanish American War. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/23 Full Review Audience Member It has some weird character motivations and underwhelming violence for an R rated war film, however it is an immersive film. The story provides a new history lesson to those unfamiliar of the Mexican-American war, the actors perform great, and the cinematography is befitting to the setting as well as the film score. The mass desertion of Irish-American U.S. Solders to fight on the side of Mexico during The Mexican-American War. A war that by all accounts was a deliberate land grab by the the United States. "this is no war of [defense], but one of unnecessary offense and aggression" -Henry Clay, speech on Mexican American War Too bad it isn't a better movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review william s Solid true story that I wish where told by a different director. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Not a huge fan when I first saw it in the early 2000s, but I've grown to really like this film. Despite a limited budget, it holds up surprisingly well and still feels contemporary after nearly 20 years. It also stands out from all of the TNT war films and other historical war dramas that came out in the 90s. Honestly, how many films ask American audiences to root against the American army? There are scenes in this film that get burned into your head and never go away. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A superb film, which was sadly suppressed in most of the USA and in the UK because of the uncomfortable truths that it tells - thoroughly enjoyable, excellent acting performances and as true to the real story as one might expect from Hollywood. The only downside is the rather pointless love story, but again, that's hollywood for you. a superb film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
