Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter One Million American Dreams makes a valuable contribution to the argument that the city's forgotten people surely deserve better. Feb 8, 2019 Full Review Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times "One Million American Dreams" lacks a cohesive structure, but it is bound together by the tears and grief of the people left behind. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times This documentary makes a powerful case that the city's lost dead are due more honor than what Hart Island currently extends. Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Charles Solomon FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) There are lots of clichéd shots of people walking around and portentous monologues about how there is economic inequality in New York. Well boy, what a surprise! Sep 18, 2019 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru Poignant, illuminating, enraging and well-edited. A powerful and eye-opening exposé. Rated: 9/10 Feb 8, 2019 Full Review Loretta Goff Film Ireland Magazine One Million American Dreams is a timely, well-crafted, poignantly shot and animated documentary that speaks to a number of contemporary social issues neatly encapsulated by Hart Island-the story of which is remarkable in itself. Audience Member The content of this documentary is worth exploring but the nature in which they present it is whiney and naive. As a person that works in Funerary Archaeology, you learn that people (rich and poor) have buried people in mass graves, in fact, most didn't even receive a coffin (Ossuary, etc). Of course, there is a class division in NYC, especially in the Victorian era but everyone, including other industrialized countries, lived terribly back then unless they had money. They attempt to present this documentary as if Harp's island is the one and only mass burial pit. I've worked in places all over the U.S. and Europe and there is a neverending collection of burial pits, that range in socioeconomic class, cultures, race, and ages.
