Roger Moore Movie Nation What's striking... is its stark modernity, a lean story told with artful touches and unfussy performances, all in a film that was produced at the tail end of "The Darkest Hours" of World War II. Rated: 3/4 Dec 26, 2021 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ...should appeal to fans of The Archers, those interested in WWII and anyone who enjoys a rattling good, stiff-upper lip patriotic story.... Sep 30, 2021 Full Review MFB Critics Monthly Film Bulletin This is an exceedingly good flying-war film. Lovely photography, first-class direction, straightforward production and sincere acting from people who know their job put it at the top of its class so far. Jan 24, 2018 Full Review Fernando F. Steve D Decent story bad executions. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Andrew B Just another good old war movie. Where the Brits battle the Nazis. Another classic to watch of a lazy Sunday. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/13/22 Full Review andy f Terrific tale. Always full of admiration for films made while the war was in full swing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A surprisingly good film. There film suggests this is based on a true story but I don't see this mentioned on-line so I think the film is fictional but possibly based on a generalised recovery of shot down and recovery of Allies. I guess there should have been more fear from the soldiers as they never seemed to be phased with any of the circumstances but the events were very interesting. worth a watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review kevin w One of the most interesting wartime propaganda films ever made and why? Because this British production is actually a commercial for another country altogether. The crew of a shot-up Brit bomber goes down and must make their way across Nazi-occupied Holland to get home. Do get this done the team depends on the Dutch Resistance, and so the piece is about what the Nederlanders do get the boys home. Thrilling, while also being the most Dutch I've heard spoken outside of a Dutch production itself. Jolly good show! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Another early wartime collaboration from The Archers (Powell and Pressburger, later to create The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus, among other phantastic films). The plot here is straightforward enough: an RAF crew has to bail out over the Netherlands when their engines fail and then need to find their way out of Nazi-occupied territory and back to the UK. How they manage this (with the help of Dutch locals) represents the main action (and suspense) of the film. But far from being humdrum, the Archers present these methodical steps in a lyrical way with affectionate characterizations from memorable character actors -- and as much quirkiness as can be safely rendered in what were very serious times. Most of the collaborators' magic is yet to come but this is still worth a watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
