Jeff M Leave it to Mary Poppins and Brett Maverick to finally melt my Scrooge-like heart this holiday season! This is the perfect holiday movie for the ON GOLDEN POND crowd. In their third screen pairing after THE AMERICANIZATION OF EMILY and the wonderful VICTOR/VICTORIA, Andrews and Garner are as comfortable together onscreen as a pair of woolen socks in front of a roaring fireplace. They make a satisfactory story into something truly special. Both are among the warmest and most genuine screen presences ever, so when you put them together in the same project, the results inevitably tug at the heartstrings. I'll be honest - outside of Andrews and Garner this is frankly a mediocre Hallmark-esque movie with average acting and TV-level production values. Thankfully, though, the two veterans are onscreen, separately or together, for the vast majority of the time. The titular special night is indeed just that, and watching them do the most mundane acts like spoon peanut butter and jelly out of a jar becomes something lovely. It's not the most exciting movie ever made, so I wouldn't recommend watching right after Thanksgiving dinner when you're on an L-tryptophan high. But curl up in front of the TV sometime this season and enjoy two seasoned pros who obviously enjoy working together. It will warm the coldest of hearts. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review Andrew K A super cute movie that is held together by two stellar actors. James Garner and Julie Andrews are fantastic in this film. Julie Andrews and James Garner are wonderful. Good lessons about dealing with aging parents and spouses Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member A classy and sweet holiday romance movie - Julie Andrews and James Garner show us why they were such a great pair in 'Victor Victoria'. It;s not a big budget film and seems to lag a little in the 3rd act but definitely still worth viewing for fans of Andrews/Garner as well as romance Holiday movies. 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved it, it's brilliant acting and sense of humor really pull everything together.
