What to Know

Critics Consensus

Drenched in gonzo old-school gore effects and stylishly crafted action, Onslaught unleashes a story that ultimately lacks the substance and primal fury its title promises.

Audience Says

While some story points may feel undercooked, Onslaught is a fun grindhouse throwback that splatters fans with blood, guts, and a glorious female protagonist.

The production value feels like it's very much there. I see a whole lot of confident filmmaking, but because I'm such a big fan of Adam Wingard and the team that he often works with, I expected more from a movie like this. Go to Full Review

I was more than happy to watch Wingard get down in the mud and craft abhorrent sequences of action-heavy cruelty. Go to Full Review

The film feels needlessly complex. Rather than just delivering on its clean setup, it becomes fixated on teasing future installments—a symptom of the obsession with sequelization that’s affecting even smaller genre films. Go to Full Review

"Onslaught" delivers a thrill ride, a vibe and an unhinged celebration of its many blood-soaked influences. Go to Full Review

Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s ode to 1980s slashers and grindhouse actioners merely apes their own earlier films while failing to adjust for modern-day horrors Go to Full Review

A fun homage to John Carpenter’s 'Assault on Precinct 13' that proves well-made pastiches can still deliver quality entertainment. Go to Full Review

Charles A 13 hrs ago Has a subplot that really adds nothing to the film but I guess they wanted that actor in this. See more Alex Arevalo 1 day ago Highly disappointed. Expected more from A24 and left with my expectations to the floor. So much potential but was rushed, I wanted more doctor tbh but that’s just me See more FatDudeDigsFlicks 2 days ago I do wish this would have been a little more of a gonzo Grindhouse kind of movie, but as an 80s John Carpenter action homage, it was still a good time. A wild supersoldier story, Onslaught blends a lot of different genres into one and the mixture is mostly successful. Adria Arjona is great and hopefully this paves the way her to get more lead roles. There’s a really fun supporting cast on hand including Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, and Drew Starkey. Reginald Veljohnson is here, as well, and my heart did somersaults getting to see Carl Winslow fire a gun. A slick and enjoyable movie, even if I wanted to like it a little bit more. See more Susan 4 days ago It was not a good movie, very low budget film, waste of money, See more Mimi 6 days ago Definitely style over substance. But the style was excellent from start to finish. If you like slashers, hot guys (including in tactical gear and masks), hot girls, and killer action - this movie is for you. The movie got a great sense of humor too.
