Critics Consensus

An uncommonly ambitious animated film, Orion and the Dark benefits from a Charlie Kaufman screenplay that isn't afraid to tangle with existential ideas.

Lisa J A great film to explain fears and anxiety is completely normal. With a daughter that worries about so much, it was a relief that she wasn't alone. Skillfully crafted and she's still talking about it, which tells me it's a hit! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Kyle M One of the more bizarre film treatments for a children’s book without any bother to the narrative, which being a faithful aspect alongside the provoked wonder towards the thematic depth till the lowbrow progression hinders as null void. Writer Charlie Kauffman has his signature traced in few explorable peaks that both age groups can enjoy in absorbing through the sweetened cute animation and fun performances, all providing enough manifestation of a worthwhile heart albeit the evident directorial indecision mainly geared for the youthful eyes and grown ears. I love the whole thing eventhough some can give you anxiety but I love the whole of the situation story.
