Critics Consensus

The animated portion of Osmosis is zippy and fun, but the live-action portion is lethargic.

Mostly animated PG film has gross-out humor, violence. Go to Full Review
Time Out 01/26/2006
The plot's so much old rote, and the characters have all the personality of protoplasm; but the anthropomorphising of this microcosmic metropolis is wonderfully imaginative, and the dialogue decidedly spiffy. Go to Full Review

The ideas are there, hints of genius, but no one ignites them. Go to Full Review

It's imaginative, ingenious and dramatically flat. Still, it may satisfy his who will learn a lot about the nasty effects of junk food on the human body. Go to Full Review

It sometimes lets its imagination cut loose in a fun way. But a lot of the movie is just puns, body humor, jokes...but some of the parts, they do very well with it... Go to Full Review

Blu B Nov 25 Ummm.....it's alright. I feel like I should like this more than I do. It's kind of like Inside Out just with the actual cells instead of emotions. Than mixing in a buddy cop thing too. The villian is really good and the best part with a great design, voice, and plan. The idea is very clever and there are some clever scenes I like. The plot makes perfect sense and does flow well enough. This should work quite well. But everything here is just ok. First off the live action scenes with Bill Murray are just ok, the humor is flat, kind of disgusting, and just isn't very memorable. It feels more than anything like a completely seperate film. Why they just didn't animate those scenes like Inside Out and have Murray do voicework is beyond me. It's probably the weakest part. The music is so dated with late 90's-early 00's R&B and generic tracks. It's so forgettable and dated. The animation is....disgusting at times, and not very pleasing. The green booger look to lots of this is just....I don't know why they went with that for so much of the runtime. Than Chris Rock just cracking Rock jokes all the time...It's whatever I guess. I like the two main characters but half the time they aren't even the main focus. It's the human ones, the virus, and all the other supporting stuff trying to show what is going on but it doesn't tie in the main characters. Ozzy will legit disappear for quite a while before bouncing back. So it just isn't even, very unappealing at times, but also has moments where there are flashes of doing things right. Skip this. If it was less disgusting maybe it could work for hardcore Murray fans but even still unless you wanna see his zit pop upclose just skip it. This is something that should probably get a remake honestly. There is lots of potential here. See more Noel L Nov 10 This was Rush Hour in the human body. It was so cringy and disgusting for a majority of the film for how graphic and real it gets See more Sep 1 Criminally underrated. The animation is amazing, and this movie has one of the best cartoon villains I’ve ever seen. Thrax is fantastic antagonists. Great character design, voice acting, animation, etc. I do prefer the animated portions of the movie over the live-action ones, but the two tie together to make one cohesive story. The overall story is fairly basic, but the setting for the events that unfold is unique and keeps an otherwise basic plot feeling fresh.
