When his parents are killed in a car accident, science wiz Ethan must leave behind college and his girlfriend to care for his younger brother and sister. By day, he juggles the responsibilities of raising two kids; by night, he tinkers in the garage on an invention he hopes will change the world: a machine that can generate wireless electricity. He gets more than he bargained for, however, when the device awakens the dead souls that haunt the house.

Critics Consensus

Our House sits on a solid foundation of genuine pathos, even if the storytelling structure tends to be frustratingly rickety in spots.

Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Our House is a slick reinvention of filmmaker Matt Osterman's indie shocker that makes up in visceral intensity and emotional nuance what it lacks in originality. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 14, 2018 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com With sincerity kind of holding everything together, it's dispiriting when Our House becomes more of a rote haunted house movie. Aug 6, 2018 Full Review Brad Wheeler Globe and Mail Better to leave the past behind is the message director Scott Burns himself ignores. Trying to improve on a rough-cut original, he fails to account for the ghost in the machine. Rated: 2/4 Jul 27, 2018 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts It's got a really pleasing stylization to it... I think it's such a high-quality production, a drama [that has] horror elements in all the right places. Rated: 7/10 Mar 24, 2021 Full Review John Serba Decider Features enough quality filmmaking and strong performances to make it worth a watch. Jun 10, 2020 Full Review Matt Donato Slashfilm While Our House sounds horribly generic on paper, it's Burns' directorial eye and sensationalism that frames ghostly haunts with confidence. Rated: 7/10 May 27, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Matt V Nicely executed movie, but nothing new here. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Korra N A great premise turned into a run-of-the-mill haunted house movie, Our House is a decently acted little chiller of a film that works as spooky season background viewing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review michael p This is just a basic scary movie without the gore. I think young people would enjoy this. Not sure why others voted down on it. But with all the gore in movies these days its nice to have a normal ghost movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/13/23 Full Review Emilliano Jr S The 'Feels Like Heaven' at the end got me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/16/23 Full Review sean s Clingy parents die in accident. Son invents ghost reviving machine. Kind of slow going nowhere. Not a bad movie, just not great. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ben w I got interested in the hype - so decided to watch it. However, you must suspend belief - and it works like this. If you think they could afford a 100k house, then you can stretch to 1M, or maybe 2M. Now with spoilers... If you think some scammer can plan to run him off the road, then you must also believe they will manage to do it with a very planned oncoming vehicle with a mother and child very reliably planned to have very specific injuries. Really, the writers needed to have a plausible backstory which they needed to display to make us believe this - I can't see it or accept it. After this we know that whatever reality is created can be completely undermined by an unexplained and implausible 'coincidence'... and so I had run out of steam watching halfway into the second episode.
