Kim Newman Empire Magazine The plot is the usual hokum and Edward Mulhare isn't really eccentric enough to compete in the villainy stakes, but Coburn is plainly enjoying himself so much, and the trimmings are so stylish, that it's impossible not to enjoy. Oct 18, 2011 Full Review TIME Magazine The gimmickry congeals. Oct 18, 2011 Full Review Variety Staff Variety [A] dazzling, action-jammed swashbuckling spoof. Jul 22, 2008 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ... one of the best off-brand Bond variations, with an excellent leading man, a slightly different angle, and a climax that’s certainly in the right ball-park in terms of combatting excess with excess... Rated: 3/5 Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Pauline Kael McCall's Our Man Flint is a wheezing, appallingly ugly comic-strip imitation of the Bond comic strips, and it wastes the talents of James Coburn. Sep 19, 2023 Full Review Peter Sobczynski The Spool Like others films of its type, it took the tongue-in-cheek approach but remembered to include bits of actual wit amidst the silliness. Joel H I didn’t realize this before watching it, but Our Man Flint is the Austin Powers of its time. This movie is a parody of James Bond movies during the burgeoning years of 007’s career. However, the plot isn’t as ludicrous as Austin Powers, the characters aren’t as zany, and the humor, while definitely tongue-in-cheek, is fairly dry. At first, I felt like James Coburn was an odd choice for the main man, but his charisma and suave demeanor soon won me over. While Our Man Flint may not be as iconic as the Austin Powers franchise, I have to say that I enjoyed it more than some of the Austin Powers movies. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/10/24 Full Review Kathryn H If you enjoy spoofs, this is absolutely fabulous fun. Coburn is brilliant. I have no idea how he kept a straight face. My favorite bit has to be the pleasure unit go-go scene. If you don’t enjoy this kind of silly, well don’t watch it. It is 5 stars in its category. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Mitchell C If you can put yourself in a mid sixties mindset and remain there for an hour and forty seven minutes you should give this a go. The movie pokes fun at itself often (and the Bond franchise in general) and James Coburn is great company, at the height of his popularity and sex appeal. The very best of the Bond mock-offs but if you like this one check out Danger:Diabolik with John Phillip Law. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review X O Terrible, even as a James Bond spoof. Helen Funai is cute, though. So is Gila. Savvy looking woman. What's right about this film, and all films like it, is how much programming we go through to accept the bullsht we live through. Also that climate change is the slow death we face since the 70s. Anything for money, hey? Fck, humanity is so stupid. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/14/23 Full Review Stephen Jules R So ridiculous and silly but aware I love it classic weird but enjoyable and fun too Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/23 Full Review DanTheMan 2 I know I once said that Americans shouldn't do James Bond, but I'm willing to make an exception for James Coburn's unpredictable and utterly unhinged performance as Derek Flint. Our Man Flint coasts along on two things, one being the sheer enjoyment of Coburn's performance, radiating with hippie chic as the ultimately bohemian renaissance man, the other being the dazzlement of a film that plays like it was built from the ground up to capture everything aesthetically and socially that defined the 1960s. It's tremendous fun if a tad slow. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
