      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Unforgivably dull, Outcast fails to deliver virtually all of the goofy fun that should come from a movie starring Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen in ancient China.

rashid W Nice to Anikin :-)! Compared to 2023 movies, there's much to like! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review giorgos n It was actually pretty fun despite what the critics ( and the majority of the audience ) makes you think. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/06/23 Full Review Paige W Really enjoyed this movie and honestly surprised by the reviews. Hayden gives a great performance and the story is interesting and well paced Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/13/22 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed the sword fighting and Cages over-acting was sublime. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely ridiculous, and surely Nicholas Cage only did it for the money. 12th century crusaders desert the Holy Land, and end up in China. Which would be, what, 5000 kms? Not only do they speak the language, but they even know where to go, and the short cuts to get there. One is an opium addict and paralytic drunk, but can still defeat dozens of Chinese Imperial guards. And Nick Cage is an over-acting, and over-bearing, boor, with a dreadful pseudo Welsh accent. Still, love develops, the peasants rally to their cause, hundreds are killed in sword fights, buzz, buzz…ho hum….sorry, where was I? Can't tell you about the end because I switched over to a replay of "I Love Lucy." Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Firing Nicolas Cage would have improved this movie significantly, and replacing him with the inflatable autopilot from Airplane would have improved the average acting quality by 65%. OMFG Cage should have been forced to refund his fee for this film. Christianson was only slightly better, and the accent coach for this film should be drawn and quartered, if there even was one. I've heard better accents in school plays. And seen better acting. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com Outcast at least has the benefit of a crazy, over-the-top Cage performance that gives this horrendous film a few hilarious moments. Rated: F Apr 17, 2015 Full Review Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com The status of actor Nicolas Cage's career has now definitively shifted from its entertainingly eccentric phase into its genuinely befuddling and perhaps sad phase. Rated: 1/4 Feb 6, 2015 Full Review Brad Wheeler Globe and Mail A China-set, 12th-century action drama that cuts with the blatancy of a broadsword. Rated: 2/4 Feb 6, 2015 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Cage is in rare form here, theatrically dropping lines like "I am the White Ghost," and laughing maniacally when he isn't slashing and stabbing his way through Shing's army. Rated: 1/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Stephen O'Nion One Room With A View A dire exercise in monotony in which Cage's evermore eccentric acting just serves to make the whole thing sadder. Rated: 1/5 Apr 17, 2019 Full Review Rebecca Pahle Pajiba A boring story told by staggeringly bad actors [...] spouting wooden lines of dialogue. Nov 11, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews
