Much of the film is shot in close-ups, making for a stark oppressiveness. Go to Full Review

The Outsider is as gripping as it is significant, as emotionally involving as it is right thinking, a film that is entertaining in the best and truest sense of the word. Go to Full Review

Because of its slim narrative and relatively unsympathetic protagonist The Outsider is probably the weakest of Tarr's films. Go to Full Review

10/20/2011 Poderia ser menos lento e arrastado... mas tem história interessante. See more 04/07/2011 My least favorite of the Domestic Trilogy and of Tarr's oeuvre. I find it bland and uninteresting. It seemed unintentionally messy and quickly slapped together (by Tarr's standards; the film is quite exceptional compared to those coming out in the 1980s). See more 04/07/2011 It is a right dicision to go for black and white. Making this movie in colors takes a away a lot of weight. I love how the movie is in fragments (rough transitions made possible by shock cut), it gives a texture of life. The movie also give an insightful portrayal of how life can sometimes get the better of us. But yeah, I still love the later Tarr more. See more 01/21/2010 A young slacker type uses music to escape his economic problems. I don't mind Tarr's early socio-realist movies, even though (like Polanski and Kieslowski and other Eastern Bloc types) his work improves as his artistic sensibilities mature. There's not a whole lot to this movie, but it's very watchable with good performances, good dialogue, and good music. See more Read all reviews
