Leonard Maltin leonardmaltin.com Some reviewers have criticized the film for being too Disney-esque. I'm not sure why that's a bad thing--but I'll grant you that the movie feels comfortably familiar. Nov 10, 2020 Full Review Mark Kennedy Associated Press The acclaimed animator behind such powerful figures as Ariel, Aladdin, Tarzan and Rapunzel has a new heroine and she's going further than any of his creations - the moon. Rated: 3/4 Oct 30, 2020 Full Review Tasha Robinson Polygon Over the Moon's emotional journey is solid and well-expressed. Again, it draws on calculated iconography... But Fei Fei's emotional journey is a universal story about feeling pain and learning to move on. Oct 26, 2020 Full Review Nuha Hassan Nuha Hassan (Medium) It is a universal story of loss and grief that everyone is familiar with, the importance of finding new love, and accepting loss. It is undoubtedly beautiful and emotionally driven. Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Zoë Rose Bryant Loud and Clear Reviews Over the Moon spectacularly shines a light on Chinese culture with its arresting animation, touching themes, and stellar soundtrack. Rated: 4/5 Sep 1, 2022 Full Review Victoria Luxford City AM Once you've finished tapping your feet to the pop-infused musical numbers, you'll struggle to remember what happened. Audience Member dang, this made me cry. While I think it goes rather fast, it manages to squeeze in A lot of learning experiences for the main character that don't feel forced. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review Jay W "Over the Moon" is a 2020 Netflix animated film directed by Glen Kean and John Kahrs. The two of them had previously worked on Disney films like "Beauty and the Beast", "Tangled" and "The Incredibles". At times this film can very much feel like a film from the Disney Renaissance Era. There are cute animal sidekicks, parental issues and a whole lot of songs. The movie has 22 credited songs on the soundtrack. I appreciate the effort in creating so many original songs for the movie, unlike say "Trolls" which is more of a "jukebox musical", singing covers of pre-existing songs. The movie has so many songs, that they kind of start to blend together, none of them really stand out. On the positive side, there aren't any obnoxious earworms that are stuck in my head for days. The movie is not very tightly written, there are plenty of loose ends and wasted time. There are plot points that go nowhere and could have been cut out of the story without anything being missed. They set up a mystery at one point that has no satisfactory pay off. The main girl, Fei Fei, can be really annoying sometimes. She is short sighted, stubborn and really mean. Speaking of annoying, Ken Jeong joins the movie as animal sidekick number 4 and... honestly he's not too bad. And that is the movie in a nutshell, it's not too bad. I enjoyed the original songs. The animation is colorful and imaginative. There is a world they go to that reminds me of what a child would doodle with their crayons. The movie isn't doing anything groundbreaking, but it was a nice story told in a creative way. I'm not over the moon with it, but I am pleasantly surprised. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Audience Member It’s a such a great movie, just finished watching it again for the 100th time, definitely recommend, the songs are very catchy and the message is touching! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review Paul G My 5 y/o granddaughter is hooked. Her 18 m/o brother marvels at the explosions of color and says “wow!” Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/31/24 Full Review Ezekiel M This movie is amazing and has catchy songs ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Valeria N A mi parecer es una película muy bonita, su diseño, animación y la diosa de la luna es el mejor personaje.
