What to Know

Critics Consensus

Pacific Rim Uprising won't win any points for subtlety or originality, but it delivers enough of the rock 'em-sock 'em robots-vs.-kaiju thrills that fans of the original will be looking for.

Ben Sachs Chicago Reader This unnecessary sequel, lacking the original's assets, plays like a vapid Transformers knockoff. Mar 20, 2020 Full Review Anupama Chopra Film Companion I'm not sure even fans will find this industrial-strength head-banger entertaining. The best thing is that Pacific Rim: Uprising is under two hours though I have to warn you - it feels much longer. Rated: 1.5/5 Sep 5, 2018 Full Review Robert Daniels 812filmreviews Pacific Rim: Uprising is the skim atop your cooling soup: an unnecessary goop spoiling your appetizing meal. Rated: 1/4 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies ...it’s tough to embrace it as anything more than forgettable blockbuster fluff. Rated: 2/5 Aug 24, 2022 Full Review Daniel Howat Next Best Picture Don’t get me wrong, if you’re here mainly to watch robots faceoff against monsters, you’ll likely leave fairly satisfied. Pacific Rim Uprising disappointingly settles for simply being passable. Rated: 3/10 May 19, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The whole thing has a forgettable quality that almost deletes itself from your memory in the minutes and hours after seeing it. Felipe N Awful movie. Not like the first one Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/23/25 Full Review Masato S A soulless sequel that misunderstands the genre Do you realize why this movie is a total failure? I had my doubts from the start, but the moment they fired a Rocket Punch without shouting "Rocket Punch!", I knew it: They just don't get it. It’s a sequel in name only. The soul of the previous movie is completely missing. The first movie was a masterpiece. It perfectly elevated Japanese Super Robot and Kaiju culture into live-action. It was packed with details that hit home for anyone who loves this genre. But this one? There is an overwhelming lack of respect. They don't understand the charm of Super Robots. They mistake genre tropes for bad writing, not realizing that "convenience" is part of the charm! They don't understand the weight. The machines move way too lightly for their size. That heavy, sluggish movement was the whole point! It feels shallow. Frankly, calling it a "cheap knock-off" feels more accurate than calling it a sequel. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/21/25 Full Review Pablo S i can not like love see watch hear or know this movie the writing and acting is not bad horrible nasty but horridness i tried watching this movie i tapped out after 18 minutes from the start you can tell this movie is gonna be mid the military base scene where they land just terrible cringe throwing around the word Pentecost like a football and then the girl cadet saying all the jaegers made it worse I'm sorry i had to write this and just get out all my hate for this 0/10 sad they never made a sequel to the one and only real pacific rim movie they killed this franchise with this movie Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/25 Full Review Michael M. Just no. Let's all pretend this never happened. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/24/25 Full Review Deshawn F. Good sequel to me had jus what I needed Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/25/25 Full Review Nick G Robots fighting monsters, what more could you ask for. The movie doesn't pretend to be anything that it isn't. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/21/25 Full Review Read all reviews
