Synopsis
A traveling theatrical singing group headed by Canio (Afro Poli) arrives in a village set to perform. Although hunchback Tonio (Tito Gobbi) loves Canio's beautiful wife, Nedda (Gina Lollobrigida), Canio disregards him, and Nedda treats him abusively. Despite fearing Canio, Nedda has a lover, Silvio (also Gobbi), who blatantly goes to a tavern with Canio before meeting Nedda. Witnessing their rendezvous, Tonio relays Nedda's infidelity to Canio, setting up a tragedy mirrored by the group's show.
