Critics Consensus

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension ties up some of the franchise's lingering questions, but six films into the series, the thrills are mostly gone.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION does what every other movie in the franchise has failed to do--tell a story. Rated: B+ Sep 1, 2017 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times It's sad to see a series that started with such a bang go out with such a whimper. But it's better than wringing a seventh movie from this tired old formula. Rated: 2/5 Feb 23, 2016 Full Review Ryan Gilbey New Statesman At no point does anyone say, "put down the camera, bro. You're freaking me out." When do they think they're going to watch this stuff back? "Hey, let's crack open a few beers and watch those old tapes of us watching those old tapes." I can't see it. Nov 12, 2015 Full Review Mikel Zorrilla Espinof 'Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension' is a mess and a complete pain in the ass in which the only debatable is what is the least bad thing of all. [Full Review in Spanish] Apr 10, 2020 Full Review Frank Ochieng SF Crowsnest ...stretched its one-time legitimate creepy credibility into a tired and tacky frightfest that overstayed its welcome. Basically, audiences needed another Paranormal Activity installment much like a creaky skeleton needs its share of body fat. Rated: 1.5/4 Nov 9, 2018 Full Review Molly Henery The Blogging Banshee Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension is an entertaining film with lots of good scares. It also had an interesting plot that brought a fitting end to the Paranormal Activity franchise. Rated: 6/10 Nov 2, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Lawrence C A dumb premise that leads to bloodless series of embarrassingly bad non-events. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Korra N By far the worst PA film, The Ghost Dimension takes all the worst parts of the franchise and doubles down on them, while removing everything interesting and good, save for a couple moments of solid effects work. Even as a fan of Paranormal Activity, I can't recommend this. Jaws: The Revenge was a more entertaining sequel, and that says something. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/20/24 Full Review Dan R 'Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension' dropped in 2015 and really ramped up the franchise to make some startling reveals and tie up this ongoing story. SYNOPSIS: 'Using a special camera that can see spirits, a family must protect their daughter from an evil entity with a sinister plan.' As per 'Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension' the original synopsis I'd read led me into believing this story was going in a different direction. I was wrong, and this film is probably more connected than the other sequels. This film looks to fill in some of the gaps, and answer questions, which came from the third film's ending. It does this really well, through archival video footage, which has its own spooky foreboding. What we realise here though is there's a grand conspiracy, probably national, to satisfy the demon 'Tobi' and his followers. It's a lot bigger than I think anyone following this franchise could've ever believed. And that's brilliant! There's a real story here. That plus some incredible practical effects, dark tension and jump scares aplenty makes this a brilliant watch. Especially if, like me, you're invested in this story. I do have a couple of issues though: 1) if the camera they find is the camera from the third film, and it can see spirits now, why couldn't it see spirits in the third film? 2) did we really need to see 'Tobi'? Or this gooey liquid thing which looks like something out of 'House of Haunted Hill'? If you're going to do it make the CGI look good. This is a big failure here and knocks this film down for me. Not the films fault, but I was gutted to find out the version I was watching had the alternative 'nice' family ending and not the bloody scarefest the film was originally released with. Annoying. At the time of release this was to be the last film in the franchise and I guess it would've been a satisfying closure to the story. Unfortunately there's more to come. However, this is a great addition to the franchise and only falls down by trying to show the viewer too much. 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review R-T T Paranormal activity:The Ghost Dimension is the stupidest attempt to parasitize a beloved franchise! It's not even worth the attention! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Alec B Look, all of these movies are stupid to a certain degree but turning it into a bad special effects extravaganza was conceivably the stupidest. Also getting to "see the activity" spoils what works best about these movies. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Cayden P The worst movie I've seen in a while. 0.5/5 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
