Alec B It has an experimental theater vibe to its weird internal logic. The visceral violence of the ending proves that Ridley wasn't just being strange for its own sake. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Audience Member Like Ridley's other works, this is a dreamy fairytale-like parable that's seemingly nonsense, but is rich with symbolism. It's a nightmare commentary on Christian fundamentalism and the death of the nuclear family in modern society. It's one of those films that's going to get richer with each viewing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/20 Full Review Audience Member Its definitely interesting. I wouldn't say its bad just that it wasn't for me. Its like a weird Fairy Tale for grown folks. The ending was fucking cool doh. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member A great little Lynchian film charged with sexual tension, religious terror and wonderful acting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A truly bizarre film featuring a lot of future stars (Brendan Fraser, Viggo Mortensen, and Ashley Judd), The Passion of Darkly Noon follows a young man who escapes from a cult and attempts to fit in with a modern couple living in a rural location. Unfortunately, Darkly''s (yes, that's his name) love for the beautiful young woman begins to drive him insane once her mute boyfriend returns. Intensely strange and definitely original, The Passion of Darkly Noon delivers a few moments of twistedness but ultimately fails to entirely make up for its somewhat idiotic aesthetic. Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Those interested in American Gothic oddities from the period should definitely appreciate this underrated item, which falls short of being a masterpiece despite the visionary ambition of Ridley. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 31, 2020 Full Review Preston Barta Denton Record-Chronicle A portrait of mythic America that drips with an ambiguous super-realism like a Salvador Dalí painting. While it may not go down smooth, its erratic taste lingers - and it might require a feel-good cinematic chaser. Rated: 3/5 Apr 17, 2020 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Here's another movie illustrating how the root of all evil can often be found in the midst of misguided religious zeal. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 5, 2020 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault By the time you get to the giant glittering silver shoe floating in the river, you'll know whether "The Passion of Darkly Noon" is your kind of insanity.
