Those interested in American Gothic oddities from the period should definitely appreciate this underrated item, which falls short of being a masterpiece despite the visionary ambition of Ridley. Go to Full Review

A portrait of mythic America that drips with an ambiguous super-realism like a Salvador Dalí painting. While it may not go down smooth, its erratic taste lingers - and it might require a feel-good cinematic chaser. Go to Full Review

Here's another movie illustrating how the root of all evil can often be found in the midst of misguided religious zeal. Go to Full Review

Chena J. @PandaNar Nov 23 Had no idea this Brenden Frazier movie existed. Cheesy and so random, got two stars for all the laughing it caused. See more Jelisije J Oct 17 While this film kept me engaged and left a lasting impression on me I just found that the main female character left me asking myself why are you clearly leading a guy on and your telling me that you didn't expect for this situation to happen to you and your loved ones......... See more Pam M Sep 8 The worst movie I have ever seen. Quite possibly the worst movie ever made! See more S S Sep 4 You probably shouldn't waste your time. This is such a B movie. It was set in Backwoods USA yet was clearly written by somebody English, with country folk using words like "shat" and phrases like "what shall I do?" I can't imagine why the director of this American movie didn't correct the writing, which I thought was terrible. Oh wait, the terrible writer was Englishman Philip Ridley, who also directed it. I felt sorry for Ashley Judd and Brendan Fraser having to try to make those lines sound plausible. Their nascent careers didn't give them the clout to argue, I guess. Luckily for Viggo Mortensen, his character was mute and didn't have to say any of these unrealistic lines. The producer clearly didn't splurge on the set. Between freshly painted men on horses in cave drawings that were supposedly thousands of years old and a "natural" hot spring resembling a Jacuzzi where two characters go to escape the heat (???!!!), lack of budget and set creator talent was evident. Prime video classifies this as a drama/suspense film, but it's actually just a horror/fantasy film. And not a very good one at that. See more Alec B 02/28/2024 It has an experimental theater vibe to its weird internal logic. The visceral violence of the ending proves that Ridley wasn't just being strange for its own sake. See more 06/18/2020 Like Ridley's other works, this is a dreamy fairytale-like parable that's seemingly nonsense, but is rich with symbolism. It's a nightmare commentary on Christian fundamentalism and the death of the nuclear family in modern society. It's one of those films that's going to get richer with each viewing.
