James B This movie was a real gem. I expected it to be a typical Flemish movie filled with cheap laughs, instead it's a visually impressive masterpiece with some laughs, some tears, and a very moving story about loss. It is also beautifully shot and well acted (except for Hannah Hoekstra, a Dutch actress who for some reason is trying to pass off a horrible Flemish accent). I disliked Kevin Janssens before this movie, but since seeing him in De Patrick he has become one of my favourite actors, and I respect him for being brave enough to take on the role. This movie has become one of my favourite movies, and I think Tim Mielants is one of Belgium's most talented moviemakers. Donald Clarke Irish Times An absolute original that should launch Mielants towards a starry career. Rated: 4/5 Dec 3, 2020 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) Yet it's mostly glib and pointless, and provides Jemaine Clement with the kind of invigorating cameo role (as an egomaniacal rock star) that only reveals the shortcomings (again, no pun . . .) of everything around it. Rated: 2/5 Nov 24, 2020 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) A wry and oddly moving tale set in a world largely unencumbered by clothing, but riddled with intrigue, deceit, and the promise of self-discovery. Rated: 4/5 Nov 22, 2020 Full Review Tom Shone Sunday Times (UK) We can assume that displaced grief plays a part in his behaviour, but Tim Mielants's film also seems to know that a lost possession can be a disproportionate bugbear for anyone. Rated: 4/5 Nov 26, 2020 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall It's a clever story playing on issues that are sometimes uncomfortably easy to identify with. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 25, 2020 Full Review Matthew Anderson CineVue With his first big screen endeavour, Patrick, Peaky Blinders director Tim Mielants has crafted as unusual an exploration of grief and loss as you are ever likely to see.
