A gay couple, Goran (Gustaf Skarsgård) and Sven (Torkel Petersson), want to adopt. But through a mistake on the adoption papers, they receive not a 1.5-year-old child, but a 15-year-old delinquent, Patrik (Tom Ljungman), who happens to be homophobic. With the agency unable to fix things for at least a week, the couple is forced to deal with Patrik's belief that all homosexuals are pedophiles. As Goran and Sven's relationship grows strained, all three learn something important from each other.

Joe Williams St. Louis Post-Dispatch This homey construct is warm, exactingly crafted and painted with pop-country tones. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 20, 2010 Full Review Ann Hornaday Washington Post A film that always chooses optimism and wishful thinking over realism. Rated: 2/4 Aug 20, 2010 Full Review Moira MacDonald Seattle Times In its murky light, the film is filled with details that seem utterly true... Aug 9, 2018 Full Review Chris Hewitt St. Paul Pioneer Press There's enough material here for two movies, and frankly, neither sounds like one I'd want to see. Rated: 2/4 Aug 20, 2010 Full Review Gerald Peary Boston Phoenix It's so sincerely good-willed, and the performances are low-key and terrific, especially Skarsgård as the more big-hearted of the gay marrieds. Art of Z Its comedy romance but there is no comedy in it. But it was pretty good movie. But problem with the movie is they didn't really focused on Patrick's character even his name is literally the title of the movie. Ending was bit problematic when Sven comeback. At first everything was moody realistic and depressing until writers forced to reunite our divorced couple. It was soooo unrealistic. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review PridePosterStudios The sort of story a friend/acquaintance pitches to you and you’re like “Mmm…yeah, s…sounds…good?” *grimace* Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/20/24 Full Review yke v This movie should come with a warning: it's homophobic as F*.. It's written for straight people, so they can feel comfortable Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Another great foreign movie. I like how the gay side of it was not overly sexualized like with other movies. I didn't, however, see the need or reason for the Sven character to come back. An alcoholic, philandering individual that blatantly cheated on his husband during their seperation. I had hoped that the Goran character would have shed some of his pandering ways and gained some independence as a single parent. They could have done away with Sven (who never had any interest in Patrik except to watch him changing his clothes) during the ending and focused more on Patrik and Goran developing their father-son realtionship and ultimate succesful adoption. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Such an adorably beautiful movie.I mean you could guess where this was heading to,but still it was such a welcome and nice surprise as movies of this genre go.Skarsgård and Ljungman were amazing in their parts, especially Skarsgård in portraying a family-oriented,ambitious young gay man.Honestly it was good from beginning to end.Instead of turning itself in a big cliche,it managed to discuss several important issues without being too loud about them and still had a definite core plot.I loved it!A beautiful example of modern European cinema! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member The tough back story of Patrik and the varied attitudes to the gay couple at the heart of the movie provide just enough grit to keep this film from being unbearably saccharine. In the end it's a predictable but solidly acted and directed heart warmer. I guess the gay theme earned it an extra half star from me, because I'm a gay man and it's just such a rare thing to find good quality gay themed films.
