Audience Member An entertaining portrait of one of Australia's greatest musicians, "Stories of Me" doesn't delve as deep as it could into the enigmatic personality of Kelly himself, but acts as more of a portrait of the music and it's connections to real life. And it is a truly beautiful body of music that Paul Kelly has written. This is an entertaining documentary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A sensitive and honest portrayal of Paul Kelly and his effect on Australian music. The brilliance of this film is held in the facts that a) Kelly rarely speaks, and instead leaves the word to friends, relatives and musicians; and b) it is not portrayed in a chronological manner. Kelly's work will leave an imprint on Australian society for decades to come. A highly recommended outing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Shit documentary. Shame, as there is a whole lot to be explored and it probably will never be done properly. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member It's not that this isn't an interesting film, it's that when it gets to the nitty gritty the film just jumps to something else. His habitual infidelity is skimmed over until almost the very end and his heroin use seems hardly worth a mention ("I used it for 25 years but decided to give it up before I had a problem"... yeah, right). I felt the film was guilty of turning away when it should have held up a spotlight and was thus disappointing. The use of lyrics on the screen was annoying. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Essential viewing for Paul Kelly fans, plus those into Australian music through the 80s. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member great wee filum about Adelaide's Paul Kelly. his battle with heroin. his early stages , takes you through his colourful life. ups and downs, lots of good interviews and humour. lots of great live footage. well worth a look.
