Audience Member Just boring from start to finish. There's dancing in various stages of undress, some faux-lesbian trysting and a jazzy score, but overall there's no real storyline to follow and not enough happening to make really ANY of it all that interesting. Hard pass, unless you're a completist and a glutton for punishment. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Do me a favor. Scroll back up and read the description for this film. Go ahead, I'll wait. Are you back now? Good. Sounds intriguing doesn't it? Well, guess what. That's one of the most false descriptions for a film that I've ever seen. Paula-Paula is not an erotic mystery or a thriller, or really any film of any genre. The film begins with that element, then quickly descends into looooooooooong and boring shots of two naked women dancing in slow motion and then making out. Oh, and there's also an upbeat jazz soundtrack in the background the entire time that repeats over and over again. The lead character tells a story to camera about a murder taking place in the bowels of hell, or something like that, and it's supposed to reflect how the movie ends, which is with a murder. It's so pretentious and ridiculous that I can't even begin to call it an art film. At least in an art film there are multiple shots of different things that are assembled in a way that make you think about something in particular. This doesn't. This is just an excuse to have two women naked, and in horrifying slow slow motion for almost the entire running time. It's only an hour and seven minutes long, but wow does it feel longer than that. They even reuse shots over and over again. It's preposterous and a waste of good film. The lead actress is actually quite mesmerizing and lovely to look at, but no amount of nudity could save this from being a poor film.
