Tyler D This movie is terrible. Cringeworthy and OMG what were they thinking when they made this. U can tell what the desired effect was supposed to be but no its cringeworthy and is hard to watch. It's just really really weird but not in a good artsy way. This movie was always $1 in the DVD bins. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/06/23 Full Review Raf M No it's not going to win any awards, but this is a fun blast from the past that's well-made and oozing with chemistry from the capable leads. Fun ‘80s romp with a flimsy but still-there message. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review kevin c John Travolta stars as a reporter from Rolling Stone magazine who's in Los Angeles working on a side story about how fitness clubs are the new pick up bars of the eighties. He quickly is attracted to the popular aerobics instructor played by Jamie Lee Curtis however she wants nothing to do with his story. Movie isn't bad, a metric ton of leg warmers and body stockings and half shirts, but the story itself is formulaic and predictable but it's fun to be transported back in time to the eighties. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review deke p 1985 take me back. Interesting! Gym aerobics classes & plastic surgery 'to be perfect'. 'Objectification'. JAMIE LEE was! & SNL's LARAINE NEWMAN! & MARILU HENNER (Super Memory gal) as gym aerobics girls. & Featuring my gym THE SPORTS CONNECTION. Travolta as Rolling Stone reporter. & 1984 computers & printers. Lots 1980s L.A. Jamie Lee as xUSA Olympic swimmer who objected to a story exposing her, and other swimmers, sexually exploited by swim coaches. Guess her character didn't think that was Taboo then. They would all be suing USA Olympics now. I'm surprised by the low RT ratings and reviews. Sure, there's lots to criticize but the movie was about superficial pursuit of physical perfection. And the movie, tho it had some comedic moments, wasn't a 'comedy' by any stretch. Oh, and actual ROLLING STONES Mag Editor JAN WENNER playing Rolling Stones Editor. Never saw before TV 6.6.21 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Nowhere near as bad as many people think. I enjoyed the movie when it came out and enjoyed it again more recently. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This should've been called Pelvic Thrust: The Movie. Seriously, the amount of gyrating going on in this would make a stripper blush. It's a cheesy, shallow movie that tries to wrestle with themes of journalistic integrity. It mostly works on that level, but the real goods here is the courtship between Travolta and Curtis, which works as well as it does, thanks to the great chemistry they share. Dave Kehr Chicago Reader John Travolta continues his wearisome trek through America's fleeting enthusiasms, though this time he arrives a day late (wasn't aerobics over a couple of years before this?) and a few dollars short. Jul 26, 2009 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Pic is guilty of the sins it condemns - superficiality, manipulation and smugness. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal A DOA romantic drama whose lone cultural legacy is that well-memed GIF of John Travolta thrusting his pelvis in a precariously perched pair of junk-hugging jockeys.
