TheFilmCritics @TheFilmCritics Aug 30, 2026 Absurdity makes for an unexpectedly winning subject in Perfect Bid: The Contestant Who Knew Too Much, an engaging documentary about The Price Is Right superfan Theodore Slauson and his extraordinary fixation on prize prices. Slauson’s encyclopedic knowledge, earnest personality, and role in one of the show’s most memorable moments give the film an irresistible curiosity, while archival footage and interviews provide an entertaining glimpse behind the television institution. Its brisk pace and playful presentation also keep the story moving without overstaying its welcome. Yet the filmmaking feels somewhat bare-bones, and Wallis rarely digs beneath the surface of Slauson’s obsession or considers what decades of such single-minded devotion might reveal. An enjoyable oddity with a terrific subject, the film is more fascinating than profound. See more Jeff M @jeffmarshallmovieblogger Feb 4, 2024 This is a very lightweight but quite entertaining documentary about one of the more fascinating game show scandals in television history. Slauson is probably the ultimate PRICE IS RIGHT fanatic, attending the show dozens of times. His commitment and dedication are simultaneously admirable and eye-rolling, and it's very interesting watching his path from viewer to contestant to controversial trouble-maker. At less than 75 minutes long, this is a fun little time-passer, especially for those of you who love old games shows as much as I do. And whether you agree with Slauson or not, he's definitely right about one thing - Holly was the greatest Barker Beauty ever. See more dustin d @RT12543299 Feb 3, 2021 Perfect Bid is a laser-focused documentary about one obsessive fan of The Price Is Right. This goes to show whenever there is a show that can be gamed, there will always be an obsessed man (pretty much always a man), who will figure out how to break it. See more Jun 25, 2020 A highly insightful documentary of just knowing your way around a game show's limitations. See more Mar 31, 2020 If you loved the Press Your Luck Scandal documentary that aired on GSN but want one with a happier ending, this is bookend you're looking for. Ted Slausson is a modern-day Rain Man with a greater sense of social awareness for others. See more Read all reviews
