Kevin Carr 7M Pictures the unique vision of this alternate reality was strangely compelling Rated: 3/5 Sep 9, 2007 Full Review Brian Webster Apollo Guide Hits the wall with a thud, coming up well short of its potential and only appealing to vampire movie aficionados looking for something slightly different. Rated: 61/100 Jul 4, 2007 Full Review Dread Central I could imagine it will gain some kind of cult status because it mixes just enough new ideas with familiar treadings to set itself apart. Sharon H I watch and rewatch this movie. Scott was fine as heck back in the day! Watching it again on the 4th. Added it to my classic Holiday movies list. Other than Scott...I loved the plot. The costumes were incredible. World-building en pointe. The steampunk kept me enthralled. Acting was top-notch. Just perfect for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review david h Imagine if you will an alternate world where vampires are not feared but venerated. "Perfect Creature" takes place in a steampunk world where the Holy Order of the Brotherhood is the church and religion. Worshiped by humans they are offered blood willingly. In exchange the brotherhood provides guidance and small doses of their own blood, which can cure almost anything. Throughout their history no brother has ever killed a human… until now. A brother is going on a rampage threatening to disrupt the balance between the two races. It is the task of Detective Lilly Squires and Brother Silus to bring the killing to an end before all order and peace is destroyed. This is a fantastic film with a depth and style you don't find in mainstream vampire films. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This simply isn't good enough to take itself as seriously as it does. Bit dull. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Though Leo Gregory as the villain of the piece gives the best performance I've seen from him since Green Street Hooligans, the true star of Perfect Creature is the world itself. Though I'm not sure why they bothered to make the setting an "Alternate reality 1960's" since it looks nothing like the 1960's (far earlier) and even if it did, the alternative universe thing would explain that enough. Still, weird decision aside, the land Writer/Direct Glen Standring has crafted for his narrative to live in, is far and away the best part of the movie. There's some great style choices too, which readily compliment the setting. Unfortunately, where Perfect Creature falls in its story. Not only are the events that unfold extraordinarily convoluted and yet still somehow underdeveloped, a large chunk of said story is outright uninteresting. That all said, there is enough backing Perfect Creature for me to come out of it with a recommendation, even if by the slimmest of margins.
