Critics Consensus

Though it doesn't delve deeply into the darkness of J.M. Barrie's tale, Peter Pan is a heartwarming, exuberant film with some great tunes.

THR Staff The Hollywood Reporter It is doubtful if the wistful fantasy has ever been done with such charm and beauty as fills the Walt Disney version of James M. Barrie's fanciful play. Feb 8, 2019 Full Review Dolores Barclay Associated Press In the 36 years of its existence, the movie has aged as little as Peter himself. It is still a lush, bright feature that happily clicks along with rollicking songs by Sammy Cahn, Sammy Fain and others. Oct 22, 2018 Full Review Kate Cameron New York Daily News A delightful entertaining film that will appeal to the young and the not-so young alike. Rated: 4/4 Feb 5, 2016 Full Review Brendan Cassidy InSession Film Peter Pan is one of the most enjoyable films in the Disney canon, with absolutely stunning imagery and a great sense of humor... Jun 18, 2024 Full Review Jet Staff Jet Magazine Disney’s all-animated technicolor version of the J. M. Barrie classic is loaded with laughs and is sure to be entertaining for adult movie ' goers as well as the small fry. Jan 16, 2024 Full Review Carson Timar ButteredPopcorn Even if one chooses to play ignorant to the problematic backbone that is present in nearly every scene of the film, the world is never explored in a particularly interesting sense and the drama often is underwhelming. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/25 Full Review Nicholas B Peter Pan is a solid 3.5-star adventure that I found enjoyable. The timeless story, whimsical characters, and sense of wonder make it a fun watch. While it has its magical moments, some parts didn’t fully captivate me. Still, it’s a charming and nostalgic tale that has its own unique appeal. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review Audience Member the low rating for this classic has to be because of review bombing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/23/25 Full Review matthias s **Peter Pan (1953) – 3 Stars** I never really watched this version as a kid, but over time, I’ve grown to appreciate it. That said, my love for *Peter Pan* comes from the 2003 adaptation, which I watched endlessly. Here’s the thing—I absolutely despise Peter as a character. He’s cocky, reckless, and just not someone I root for. But Captain Hook and Smee? Now *that’s* where the fun is. Their chaotic adventures and Hook’s constant battles with that ticking crocodile are the highlights. The worldbuilding is also fantastic—Neverland looks like a place I’d love to visit, even if it is full of mischievous kids and vengeful pirates. There are some genuinely funny moments, and the animation is classic Disney charm, but overall, it didn’t blow me away. It’s enjoyable, but nothing truly special. If you love the story of *Peter Pan*, this is worth a watch, but I’ve seen it done better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/25 Full Review Read all reviews
