Jeremiah Kipp Slant Magazine Don Coscarelli outdoes the humor of John Hughes in what feels like a more honest version of the gleeful sadism in Home Alone. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 23, 2007 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness Falls back on mystery-sapping exposition. Rated: C- Oct 31, 2005 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy Has none of the surrealistic excess that made the first movie such a genuine delight, and managed to save the second one from itself. Rated: 5/10 Jun 12, 2011 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid It's all fairly absurd, but Coscarelli retains his enthusiasm and imagination with a healthy sense of ridiculousness. Zom L Phantasm III keeps the bizarre, dreamlike mayhem of the series alive but shows the franchise beginning to lose steam. It’s still a fun watch, with plenty of the surreal imagery and creepy atmosphere fans expect, but it doesn’t quite have the same sharpness or momentum as the earlier entries. Reggie Bannister once again proves himself as the heart of the series, bringing his unique mix of charm, humor, and shotgun-wielding heroics to the forefront. His presence continues to keep things grounded even as the story gets weirder. The introduction of the “killer kid” is one of the film’s strangest choices—more bizarre than effective—and feels oddly out of place, though it does add to the film’s offbeat tone. By contrast, the Rocky character is a welcome addition, tough and memorable, bringing new energy to the group dynamic. A. Michael Baldwin returns to the role of Mike, which is a big moment for fans, though the character is tied to one of the film’s strangest twists. That final revelation piles on even more confusion, making the series harder to follow than ever. It’s an ending that raises questions rather than answers them, continuing the saga’s trend of surreal, cryptic storytelling. Meanwhile, the Tall Man looms larger than ever, obsessed with destroying towns, unleashing zombies, and using his mysterious “dimensional forks” to travel all over the place. His growing power adds menace but also deepens the sense of chaos that defines this sequel. Plus even more Spheres than ever before, including a special one that has a connection to Mike. Overall, Phantasm III is solid. It’s still fun, strange, and unique enough to keep you watching, but it’s clear the series is starting to run in circles, piling on odd characters and confusing twists instead of building on its core ideas. Fans will enjoy the ride, but by the end, you may find yourself more bewildered than satisfied. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/13/25 Full Review James B I quite enjoyed phantasm III and it was definitely better than II. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review Justin T This is definitely my least favourite of the franchise so far. It takes the mystery and arthouse horror tone of the first film, the big budget spectacle of the second film and flushes both down the toilet in favour of a mish-mash of influences from other films. I still enjoy it but nothing more than average. One thing they get right is the way that these films follow on from each other directly even though 8 years have passed, they do it really well. We’re sadly back to lower quality acting. The comedic tone in some scenes doesn’t feel right. I wish that it had stuck with a more serious tone. Enjoyable enough but nothing special unlike the first two. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Robson C Após os eventos do segundo filme, Mike é levado pelo Homem Alto. Reggie sai em busca do seu amigo, contando com a ajuda de um menino de boa pontaria e uma ex-fuzileira, além do Jody que se tornou uma das esferas do vilão. Aqui Coscarelli começa a explicar a mitologia e a razão do Homem Alto. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review chris h It's not bad for the budget it was given.had some cool moments but doesn't bring much new to series Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Liam D This is when the franchise starts losing its lustre for confusing nonsense that is dull and has the balls (no pun intended) to repeat the end of the first movie Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
