Anton Bitel Little White Lies If all this sounds like standard giallo/slasher fare... in fact Simn constructs his film in much the way that the killer recreates his puzzle: taking a bit from here, a bit from there, & stitching all these disparate pieces into a monstrous hybrid. Mar 27, 2017 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness As an example of sexist, racist sleaze, Pieces is an inadvertently amusing relic of early '80s grindhouse. Rated: C Apr 14, 2011 Full Review Alan Jones Starburst Makes no real sense at all mainly because everyone involved defies the thin line of reality it could have easily maintained. Aug 1, 2022 Full Review Jacob Knight Birth.Movies.Death. An utter masterwork of illogic. Oct 3, 2017 Full Review Christopher Machell CineVue Fans of the genre will find much to enjoy in this knowingly silly exercise in day-glo splatter. Joshua H Pieces isn't bad, nor is it great, just your average slasher with an ambiguous ending Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/07/24 Full Review Ricky R Above average 80's slasher, don't skip this one. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Courtney K i was actually really surprised by the amount of nudity in this film; but maybe it was to be expected for early 80's, idk. overall it's a fun, old, campy slasher flick if you're in the mood for one. but in actuality, it's really not that good. we keep seeing the killer put together the naked girl puzzle throughout the movie to really hit home that it's the boy from the beginning - as if we didn't already know. also: i feel like they could've reshot some of those scenes so we didn't have to watch him struggle to fit already-put-together-pieces together. that drove me nuts. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/21/23 Full Review Ricardo T Great movie. Some people don't like the like the movie because they think it's sexiest but it's just a story about a sick boy. The score is good and the story is a little bit cliche but really fun. 80's classic movie!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/17/22 Full Review lance h Worst. Acting. Ever. I mean truly - ever. But if you like the 80's slashers (some good kills, nudity, campy) then it's better/more watchable than many others. But honestly - Worst. Acting. Ever. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Taylor L No woman in this film dies with their shirt on. Kind of great as a combination of all the cheap exploitation subgenres and B-movie tropes - the splatter horror is the big one, but there's bits of low-effort cop investigations, shades of sleazy porno theatre offerings, and even a strange and totally out of place kung fu flick cameo. It's the furthest thing from a masterpiece, but that's why it works. Relatively predictable story, sluggish acting, and a beautifully jarring soundtrack all come together with a few scattered scenes of body horror to deliver one of the better unintentional satires of the giallo genre. No idea what that ending is supposed to be, it makes no sense except if you picture a drunk director Juan Piquer Simón yelling that there has to be more blood for the final shot. There's a Wendy's cup featured pretty prominently in one of the last scenes, which begs the question: did Wendy's sign off on the use of their imagery for marketing purposes, or did their legal team think the film was too small scale to go after? Not sure which one is funnier. (3.5/5) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
