Anton Bitel Little White Lies If all this sounds like standard giallo/slasher fare... in fact Simn constructs his film in much the way that the killer recreates his puzzle: taking a bit from here, a bit from there, & stitching all these disparate pieces into a monstrous hybrid. Mar 27, 2017 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness As an example of sexist, racist sleaze, Pieces is an inadvertently amusing relic of early '80s grindhouse. Rated: C Apr 14, 2011 Full Review David Day Horror Movie Talk Pieces wants to be a fun, funny, cult slasher, and to some extent it is. It tried so hard to cash in on the early slasher craze that it actually ends up being a fun, funny, cult slasher because of how hard it falls on its face. Rated: 3/10 Sep 18, 2025 Full Review Alan Jones Starburst Makes no real sense at all mainly because everyone involved defies the thin line of reality it could have easily maintained. Aug 1, 2022 Full Review Jacob Knight Birth.Movies.Death. An utter masterwork of illogic. Oct 3, 2017 Full Review Christopher Machell CineVue Fans of the genre will find much to enjoy in this knowingly silly exercise in day-glo splatter. Wayne K The slasher genre has had its many ups and downs over the years, with undoubtedly more lows than highs, so its kind of nice to have one come along every now and then that, in a way, knows it isn’t very good and just decides to run with it, as is the case with Pieces. A film with more nudity in a single project than most slashers manage in an entire franchise, plenty of grizzly deaths, a killer who may or may not be out of a giallo film, a tonne of obvious red herrings and an underwhelming killer reveal that doesn’t change a single thing about the film when you look back on it. Rather than trying to be smart or subversive, the filmmakers just say ‘Screw it, we know what the audience wants, and we’re gonna give it to them’ I applaud that attitude, because few films are worse than a cheap horror that thinks it more profound than it actually is. A lot of the character decisions are, of course, ridiculous, but I think they knew this when they were making it, considering how blatant it is. It’s a fun and gratuitous movie that doesn’t outstay its welcome and provides plenty of memorable, if risible, moments. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/25/25 Full Review Eric W. Awful voice dubbing, and no plot to be discerned; no one can disagree that the practical FX were nightmare inducing.
