Martha (Vanessa Kirby) and Sean (Shia LaBeouf) are a Boston couple on the verge of parenthood whose lives change irrevocably when a home birth ends in unimaginable tragedy. Thumbs up for the good acting and the right thematic. But thumbs down for the way the mix trauma with opportunism and revenge. I find it very hard to empathise with a couple that want to jail a poor midwife (and exact a big sum of money from her) even knowing very well that she was innocent. In this they are assisted by the whole family, which has no shortage of money and influence. Is this abusive behaviour a product of guilt or trauma? I very much doubt it.
