Critics Consensus

Pieces of a Woman struggles to maintain momentum after a stunning opening act, but Vanessa Kirby's performance makes the end result a poignant portrait of grief.

Awards talk aside, it's a bit of a mess. But it does do a decent job of capturing the impulse to blame when joy is supplanted by tragedy and loss. Go to Full Review

Its effortful grandiosity transforms it into something hollow and even, at times, risible. Go to Full Review

The film is sadly never as good as its beginning, poking at too many different aspects of trauma without ever fully engaging with them. Go to Full Review

It can be a hard one to watch but, to put it simply, Kirby is magnetic. You just can’t take your eyes off her. Go to Full Review

Michael 04/25/2021 A little hard to understand,I think theatre has a sound problem, ending seems abrupt.did Martha remarry and have a daughter? All leads are excellent espically Vanessa Kirby.would like a second viewing... See more veronica s 01/02/2021 Great direction and acting. Can be tough to watch at times. See more Luis D Sep 26 Thumbs up for the good acting and the right thematic. But thumbs down for the way the mix trauma with opportunism and revenge. I find it very hard to empathise with a couple that want to jail a poor midwife (and exact a big sum of money from her) even knowing very well that she was innocent. In this they are assisted by the whole family, which has no shortage of money and influence. Is this abusive behaviour a product of guilt or trauma? I very much doubt it. See more Michele M.
