With the summer sun beating down on her rural Spanish town, Sara hides away in her parent's butcher shop. A teenager whose excess weight makes her the target of incessant bullying, she flees a clique of capricious girls who torment her at the town pool, only to stumble upon them being brutally kidnapped by a stranger, who drives off with them in his van. When the police begin asking questions, Sara keeps quiet. Intrigued by the stranger -- an interest that's mutual -- she's torn between revealing the truth and protecting the man who saved her.

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Times (UK) While this intelligent Spanish slasher gleefully sloshes on the high-tension splatter, it also delights in inverting generic tropes, dishing up a lip-smacking level of moral complexity. Rated: 4/5 Jan 18, 2023 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) There’s an atmospheric, unsavoury oiliness to the cinematography and an uncomfortable tussle of sympathies – director Carlota Pereda shows real promise as a genre film-maker. Rated: 3/5 Jan 8, 2023 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) Piggy presumably aims to test our sympathies, but just forfeits them entirely, in the service of a facile plot and a heroine even the film itself can’t seem to stand. Rated: 2/5 Jan 5, 2023 Full Review Katelyn Nelson Daily Grindhouse ...a consistent vulnerable canvas of pain and rage that should be enough to make even the hardest audiences sit back and consider the kind of pressure we place on ourselves and others to fit our ideas. Aug 4, 2024 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) While this film is gruesome, what I love about it is how Pereda deftly subverts what you expect from a slasher film. She uses the genre to explore further themes of bullying and self-worth. Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Andrea Zamora Sensacine Piggy's first act is stupendous. florencia L Hmmm... Good photographie. The acting was not the greatest. With the potential to be great, so close, but the direction did not break through the overall teenager's aroma. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Karla S Esta película es estupenda. Una muy buena opción para mirar en familia. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/21/24 Full Review Hugo S An overweight girl is repeatedly bullied in her small town. Socially excluded due to her appearance, she sees her mental health seriously affected. A stranger starts kidnapping the girl's tormentors, launching terror among local community. After seeing one of her bullies being kidnapped by this stranger, the girl feels simultaneously confused and terrified. Why is this man willing to stand up for her? And how does she perceive him: a savior or a criminal? "Piggy" is a body horror movie with a sharp social commentary. The spectator is confronted with the systematic bullying of the main character, a horror that matches the violent crimes commited by the man who apparently wants to protect her. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Jeffrey P Bear in mind, this is just a gimmick horror film, I don’t know what critics were thinking. Not the most original or captivating plot, and most every subplot is just tossed aside by the end. The lead character is the most compelling thing about this, but by the end she’s just an irrational and annoying teen who doesn’t know what she wants. Worth a watch for the lead actor's performance. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/26/24 Full Review IT’S ALWAYS S Methodically mesmerizing. Relates well with real emotions. One of the best newer movies I’ve watched in a while. Original and captivating. A must watch for deeper thinkers who get it. Iykyk kudos to the lead role 👏👏👏 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/11/24 Full Review Craig B Certainly a very confronting movie. Laura Galan in the lead role really carries this movie. Very violent (physical violence plus bullying), so not a movie for the faint hearted.
