You have to appreciate the genre and be ready for the inevitable scenes that ramble a bit too much, but this is the sweetest and most absurd buddy comedy since "The In-Laws." Seth explained how it was a crazy idea to begin with, but ended up being an overall success. The movies acting is downright awful, and the comedy is hit or miss. This being said it is still a funny stoner movie, and the bad acting makes it better in a way. Rather than building tension or conflict, many scenes feel like someone workshopping their stand-up routine. That’s not to say there aren’t laughs—there are—but too many jokes fall flat, and the ratio leans heavily toward the latter. The action, while competent, is mostly crammed into the final quarter of the film. For something billed as an action comedy, that imbalance was a letdown. I expected tension and laughs woven together, not a comedy followed by an action finale. Still, there were bright spots. Some of the plot’s setups and payoffs were unexpectedly thoughtful, especially how cannabis-induced paranoia both endangered and saved the protagonists. That bit of narrative cleverness stood out in an otherwise uneven film. Watchable? Sure. Engaging? Not really.
