Otis Ferguson The New Republic [It's] a delight and at times will take your breath away, for the limits of the animated cartoon have been blown so wide open that some of the original wonder of pictures - wonder and terror too, as when that train roared up into the camera - is restored. P D Probably the greatest animation film ever. The music, expressions, story and editing are superb. It still stirs so many emotions after decades of watching it countless times: from joy, to pity, to horror and finally to happiness and hope. Lots of life lessons for children and adults alike. A gem. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/25 Full Review Jens B I didn't really like "Pinocchio" as a child, so it rarely ended up on the VCR. Except for the Pleasure Island sequence, the postcard-idyllic kitsch factor was too much for me; none of the songs were uplifting, and both Geppetto and the cricket were quite annoying. From today's perspective, the animation technique in the second Disney film is exciting; you can clearly see how the animation was done with great attention to detail, but it hadn't yet reached the routine perfection that would soon follow. The cat is very cute. I never need to see it again, but it was nice to watch it again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/25 Full Review Joseph S Pinocchio is a marvel in animation and film. Every frame, between the character animation and backgrounds, is unlike anything that has come after it. The underwater animation especially has become the staple in how to properly animate underwater activity, and has been praised by the studio and animation historians as a defining moment in animation. The story is beyond timeless, and the characters are long-lasting, especially Jiminy Cricket, who has since become an unofficial mascot of the company. Even the villains, while none get more than a few minutes, are engaging and compliment each other well as the story goes along. The songs are just as iconic as those of its predecessor, with "When You Wish Upon a Star" becoming the anthem for the company since them. The film also isn't afraid to explore darker tones, such as lying and the consequences that come with it. The film has also one of the darkest scenes in film with the donkey transformation, with has soured some audiences over time. While the film did not do significantly well at the time of its release, it has since become a cornerstone in hand-drawn animation and storytelling, and it should be considered to be one of the greatest animated achievements of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review Speakerman G Um belo clássico com uma trama incrível e enredo maravilhoso. Este é apenas um dos primeiros filmes Walt Disney, um grande sucesso. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Elizabeth D I had literal flashbacks upon seeing this on the 100% club list. This movie was traumatizing. I am scared of Pinocchio. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Katie R The old one just has charm that cannot be described in words. The live action one scraped it all off.
