Chris P @Xiao_Proxies 1d Disney's 2022 live-action Pinocchio, directed by Robert Zemeckis, attempts to recreate the charm of the 1940 animated masterpiece but falls short in most areas. It's not unwatchable, but it lacks the emotional depth and narrative magic that made the original so timeless. Tom Hanks delivers a solid performance as Geppetto, bringing warmth to the role, but the rest of the film feels oddly mechanical. The CGI, especially for Pinocchio and some supporting characters, is inconsistent, sometimes decent, sometimes distractingly off. The film also suffers from pacing issues, with scenes that drag unnecessarily or feel tonally flat. While the story largely follows the original, the changes made don't enhance the narrative and occasionally dilute its themes. There are flashes of potential, and younger audiences unfamiliar with the classic might enjoy it on a surface level, but for fans of the original, this version feels more like a glossy imitation than a heartfelt tribute. I don't understand what all the negative reviews are about but I can agree on this: Yes, Pinocchio (2022) may have misunderstood the point of the original animated film by having Pinocchio not turn into a real boy at the end. I'll admit, that does undermine the core message of the original. However, other than that, what else is there to enjoy? The CGI and visuals are pretty impressive and I would say Tom Hanks made a compelling Geppetto. I personally felt the despair he felt after losing his son. That scene at the beginning of the movie really made up for the weak message at the end. I also greatly enjoyed Alan Silvestri's score in this too. So, overall, is it great? No. I would say stick to the original. But, in a sense, I personally think that there is enough in this to make it a somewhat enjoyable time. See more Layne A. @poisontree Jan 27 I liked the CGI and atmosphere and settings of the movie it was beautiful. The cgi of Pinocchio’s movements were very impressive. However I think it would have been better if they had kept some of the original soundtrack from the animated film.
