This trainwreck needs to be seen to be believed. Why is the fish so sexy? Why is Tom Hanks singing? Why is there so much fecal play? Why didn't they hire real puppeteers for the puppeteer sequences? Why is even the horse in the background cg? Why did they insert new songs and why only shitty ones? Why is the inanimate puppet able to move her eyes? Why is the pacing so bad? Why are the (root) beers cg, including the foam? Did they not have beer glasses on set? Did they run out of money?

The typical Pinocchio story often seen in other productions. However, it has a lovely message about appreciating those around us as they are, rather than only appreciating them if they are the way we want them to be. (Aside from that, it's the only Pinocchio story we can see with a realistic humanoid fox and cat, instead of the frequent use in other productions of humans dressed up as said animals.)

I did not enjoy this live-action film. The design of Jiminy Cricket felt unappealing, and while Tom Hanks is a legendary actor, his performance as Geppetto, especially his accent, felt miscast and failed to fully embody the character.

Pinocchio meticulously recreated the original film, capturing every memorable moment from the beloved animated classic. However, this doesn’t make it a remarkable film on its own. The movie felt lifeless, lacking a clear purpose and lacking the magic that’s often lacking in Disney live-action remakes. These remakes don’t inspire you to wish upon a star; they only make you wish this film had more redeeming qualities. Grading: D
