Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times A smart, sweet and playful romantic comedy. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 17, 2002 Full Review John Anderson Newsday What bubbles up out of John C. Walsh's Pipe Dream is the distinct and very welcome sense of watching intelligent people making a movie they might actually want to watch. Rated: 3.5/4 Oct 4, 2002 Full Review Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter The quirky and recessive charms of co-stars Martin Donovan and Mary-Louise Parker help overcome the problematic script. Audience Member A movie as dull as Martin Donovan's screen presence. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Another romantic comedy that does not feel right. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member A romantic comedy version of "The Producers". Plumber David Kulovic (Martin Donovan) teams with his childhood friend R.J. (Kevin Carroll) and aspiring writer Toni (Mary-Louise Parker) to build a sham production to improve David's sex appeal. Not only does the casting call drum up dozens of eager actresses, but the project gets funding. Soon Toni is feeding her direction to David, and the shoot is off and running. While it's a good premise, Walsh's directing and script (co-written by Cynthia Kaplan) are never quite convincing. The industry satire feels a bit soft, and the characters vacillate erratically from sympathetic to unpleasant. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow. This was a little slow sometimes but a real gem! I enjoyed it a lot. And yes, you can say, that it's because I'm a super die hard Martin Donovan fan. But more than that, this was quirky, light, fun and entertaining. Thumbs up! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Fun and enjoyable romantic comedy, with a very engaging cast. Martin Donovan and Mary-Louise Parker are terrific and have a good rapport together. Good dialogue, great pace, the scenes are well set up together, the film flows well. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice little low budget movie about a plumber (Martin Donovan) who pretends to be a movie director to impress a girl (Rebecca Gayheart). His neighbour (Mary Louise Parker) has written a script, and it seems like this movie just may get made after all... I put off watching this one for ages. Have picked it up several times at the video store, (dating back probably to when it actually was on video. haha). Saw it going out as an ex-rental for $1.95, decided what the hell, how bad could it be compared to some of the stuff I have sat through lately?! It was actually pretty good! Nice little story and very well acted. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
