      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Despite an interesting premise (and a starmaking turn from Vin Diesel), Pitch Black is too derivative and formulaic to fully recommend to sci-fi or action fans.

Emilliano Jr S Dark, too deep to understand. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Miles B I enjoyed this movie. Interesting characters, good pace, suspenseful and scary. Happy with the selection! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review Ramazan Samet T Filmin ilk çeyreğinden sonrası tahmin edilebilir ve klişe dolu ama izletmeyi başarıyor. Tam bir 2000ler filmi. Alt metin var ve bariz, görsellik güzel, oyunculuk güzel ve senaryo biraz basit. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Tony K The film has aged very badly in terms of editing and color grading, but interesting characters and the world outweigh for the better. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review Delton P Repeated viewings haven't made me a bigger fan, but I enjoy watching this excellent sci-fi / suspense thriller every few years or so. Friends who watched it with me earlier this year were surprised to see a young Cole Hauser (Yellowstone's Rip Wheeler) in a meaty role as the interstellar bounty hunter bent on returning the fugitive murderer, Riddick, to face justice. Vin Diesel is outstanding in the lead along with a tough, brave and fetching heroine played by Radha Mitchell. As for the beasties (creatures of the night), I'll just say that I enjoyed the film's special effects a lot and let you watch and decide for yourself, if you so choose. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/05/23 Full Review Feen F This was a good movie. The writing stood out as being a lot better than modern movies. There's a good background, and good characters. If you like Sci-Fi you might like this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Nathan Rabin AV Club Pitch Black falters a bit in its last half-hour-the film's darkest moment reduces Diesel to delivering a pithy one-liner-but for the most part, it's terrific. Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian David Twohy's film undoubtedly has something interesting about it, and that something can be summarised in two words: Vin Diesel. Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Derek Adams Time Out A smart, suspenseful sci-fi movie from director Twohy, whose underrated 1996 film, The Arrival, also brought visual imagination and intelligence to the genre. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Alan Jones Radio Times With its first half sporting a brilliant desert surrealism and the second loaded with stylised gore, director David Twohy's futuristic frightener is a vivid, pulse-pounding achievement. Rated: 4/5 Mar 16, 2024 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault Yet another insecure hissy fit of a movie — a thriller without enough confidence in itself or its characters to calm down for two seconds and let the actors speak to each other like human beings. Rated: C- Sep 2, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review No matter how many better movies Pitch Black borrows from, this entertaining little sci-fi/horror exercise is just good enough to keep its audience diverted for its runtime.
