Audience Member Jane is the household maid in an upper-middle class British neighborhood (circa 1911). Her employer was widowed for 10 years and has remarried and become the father of a young infant. His wife is anxious and neurotic and under a doctor's care. The man's grown son (by his 1st wife) is training to be a surgeon and comes home periodically to visit his father and stepmother. As time goes by, he falls in love with Jane and seduces her with the idea that they will eventually marry once his career has gotten established. His father develops difficulties at his job and brings home the stress to a wife that has grown cold and indifferent. In turmoil, he seeks solace from Jane and rapes her on the kitchen table. She becomes pregnant and doesn't know who is the father...the son (with whom she is in love) or the father (who forced her against her will). The stepmother dies under bizarre circumstances and events spiral out of control. Good script, believable characters and all too human frailties and sins are revealed in this cliffhanger. Watch for the surprise ending..... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
