jacob b Planes is like the classic Mean Girls term 'fetch'. Stop trying to make Planes happen, Disney! It's never gonna happen! Sure enough, the Planes sub-franchise died shortly after the second film's home media release. While the real reason for a lack of Planes 3 is probably to focus on Cars 3, Pixar's lack of involvement with this spinoff has me sceptical about that. They don't have a high opinion of spinoffs of their IPs done without their involvement as evidenced by John Lasseter's low opinion of the Buzz Lightyear cartoon. Anyway, this short film has good animation and will keep kids pleased but lacks the depth of actual Pixar shorts and is nowhere near as funny as Pixar's own movie-based shorts. You're better off watching Mater's Tall Tales instead. And thus, the Planes franchise further cemented its status as a failed attempt to expand Pixar's cash-cow franchise beyond in-house productions.
