Mattie Lucas From the Front Row A remarkably grim and naturalistic work, dealing in a haunting sense of lonely dread. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 6, 2019 Full Review Eddie Harrison The List By the Law is essentially a three hander, played in the familiar silent style of wide-eyes and grand gestures; by stripping Edith's backstory out of London's story, Kuleshov's characters seem to have been fashioned to carry an obvious political message. Rated: 4/5 Mar 29, 2017 Full Review Sean Axmaker Turner Classic Movies Online The tension is grueling and the climax is haunting. Dec 17, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Somber, unsettling silent film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Great film by Kuleshov, adapted from a Jack London story (the story is kind of like a more moral and morally sophisticated "3:10 to Yuma" as set in the Yukon). Superb cinematography (the snow and rain and trees are used to grand effect), editing, and performances, and one of the great endings ever.
