Critics Consensus

Loaded with dazzling action but bereft of purpose, the Point Break remake will be remembered as the first film to make audiences pine for the simultaneous presences of Keanu Reeves and Gary Busey.

Roxana Hadadi Punch Drunk Critics While the stunts are impressive, they lack the impact needed to make Point Break memorable - to make it more than just a misguided mimicry. It ends up being just that. Rated: 2/5 Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Core and Wimmer don't just make a bad movie, they make one so terrible it's flabbergasting just how ghastly it actually is. Rated: 0.5/4 Aug 16, 2016 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Relentless action cannot dispel the toxic levels of claptrap that stink up this po-faced, slow-witted remake. Rated: 2/5 Feb 23, 2016 Full Review Noah Gittell Washington City Paper Point Break still seduces viewers with its tension and its thrills. May 24, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Nowhere beneath the remake’s pseudo-spirituality, philosophical babbling, and fake tattoos will you find the humor it desperately needs. Rated: 2/5 Aug 24, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review More about stunts than story, the remake leaps from one setup to another, unconcerned about notions of character or cohesiveness. ARNI S Ugh what a utterly lame movie I completely concur with the audience and the critics. Obviously made for low I.Q. audience's twenty minutes into the thing on Netflix was twenty minutes I'll never get back. Oh wow Whoopi doing a cinematography, you'll need at a sixpack of energy drinks to survive it. I've already waisted to much time giving it a major thumbs down... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Stephen C In the hope that someone will read this before wasting any time on this movie, I would like to state that this is probably one of the worst movies I’ve seen that clearly had a decent budget, some decent actors, some decent action scenes and decent cinematography. Unfortunately, all actors give terrible performances with a terrible script that has some of the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard. It’s so terrible you can guess where the story is going and what the next dialogue will be and it’s all terrible. Do yourself a favor and never watch this movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Audience Member As a stand-along movie, I may have given an extra half-star. Action wasn't bad, filming was okay, decent acting, but paid very little homage to the original, the story felt hollow, and it wasn't inspiring. Worth seeing, but wouldn't have been worth a ticket price & $275 worth of snacks & drinks. LoL Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review A A Does this movie have a bunch of issues? For sure Is it near as good as the original? No way However, it's fun and has some really neat visually scenes that's worth a chill afternoon. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/08/24 Full Review Brian C Fell asleep halfway through it very boring. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/24 Full Review Cork B The stunts were better than the first movie, but everything else was horrible. The whole movie basically served as set ups to the stunts.
