Marilyn T I read most of Agatha Christie's novels long before I ever saw or heard of David Suchet. Yet now when I think of Hercule Poirot, Suchet invariably comes to mind. He simply seems to embody the character that Christie created. Branagh's Death on the Nile was okay, but it really doesn't compare to this 2004 TV episode. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review Audience Member David Suchet is superb, in the TV show he really developed the character especially from S8 when the wooden Hugh Fraser (Hastings) departs. I'd argue Suchet's accent isn't Belgian; I lived there and no Belgian, speaking in English sounds like this, but his portrayal of Poirot is great. In Death on the Nile though, Emily Blunt's American accent is absolutely laughable, she loses it on every other word, good to see that she improves as her career develops. To compare this to Brannagh's film, sorry it doesn't, Brannagh is also excellent and solid, importantly so are all the other cast. Mercifully he didn't cast Blunt to reprise her less than magnificent performance....! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Heidi H So much better then the current Kenneth Branagh film. David Suchet is Poirot. Real on location filming, real historic river boat, accurate costumes, deck hands and realistic sets. Storyline is true to Christy's book.
