Critics Consensus

Pokémon Detective Pikachu may not take its wonderfully bizarre premise as far as it could have, but this offbeat adaptation should catch most -- if not all -- of the franchise's fans.

I found this weirdly diverting... It's a counterintuitive fit for this character, and I kind of liked that about it. Go to Full Review

Pretty well-done, and when it got to the end, the bits that are meant to tug on your heart strings twitch the very top register... Go to Full Review

The movie relies more on story than fight scenes such as trainer battles between Pokémon, but when we do see that, it is such a sight. Go to Full Review

For hardcore fans, it might be everything you’ve ever wished for, but for fans of the 2000s Pokémon, who stopped following the franchise (...) the numerous Easter Eggs and references might not be enough to overcome the undeniable narrative issues. Go to Full Review

08/22/2022 it was a live action pokemon film, could have been much better. heres hope for a legend of zelda film at some point. See more 04/04/2022 such nostalgia ,loved it See more 01/28/2022 Really dumb kids movie. Visual effects were nice though. See more Michael M @movies.tmxd Jan 3 As someone who grew up loving Pokémon and still does as an adult, seeing this on the big screen meant a lot to me. If you played the games, are attached to the original 150, and spent years daydreaming about what it would be like to actually live alongside Pokémon, this is absolutely the movie for you. See more John K @UndeadKingUK Dec 27 Boring, but there are some good ideas. The Pokémon I'm normally used to is the one from the Anime, but this is an interesting attempt to be new and different. Also, the story could've been better if they made it more engaging rather than being boring. I don't think a sequel to this film will happen because of how many companies are getting the rights to make different Pokémon series like Netflix, BBC and Aardman. See more Read all reviews
