Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Detective Pikachu is a visually impressive film with detailed CGI and vibrant cityscapes, but it struggles to satisfy true Pokémon fans. Focusing on Ryan Reynolds’ Pikachu and a new protagonist rather than Ash Ketchum removes a central element that longtime fans expected. While Reynolds delivers humor and charm, the story fails to capture the heart of the original franchise. Pacing and tone feel uneven, and some humor falls flat. Justice Smith’s performance is adequate but lacks depth, and side characters are forgettable. For casual viewers, the film offers lighthearted entertainment, but for fans, it feels like a missed opportunity. Overall, it’s a middle-ground adaptation that leaves room for a proper sequel.
