I rented this thinking it was a documentary. I hated the "documentarian right away and was furious when I realized it is fake. I am embarrassed that I got so far in. Jokes on me, but this is pure garbage.

The documentarian is the typical douche bag narcissist who has to make the film about him. The last 30 minutes are almost unwatchable as this self indulgent dbag gives us all his personal b.s. and waaaaay too many shots of his ugly face with his monstrous nose.

There is a good chance that most viewers will respond with "huh" at the end of Population Zero. Not a "huh" with a question mark and not a "huh" with an exclamation mark – just sort of a resigned "huh" to signify a bit of confusion. There's no doubt that the story itself is interesting, but it's hard to figure out why it was done as a mockumentary, which usually works best in satires or horror flicks. It becomes evident fairly early that these are actors and from that point on it becomes a bit of a distraction wondering why it wasn't done as a straight-up thriller. Regardless, there's enough here to keep things interesting, but the ending, while probably morally correct, leaves you thinking "really? This is what this thing is all about?"
