      Critics Consensus

Powder has some interesting and potentially affecting ideas, but they're ultimately dust in the wind of a drama that strains far too obviously for uplift.

Ashley R This is a timeless classic because humanity is always struggling to show kindness over the animalistic tendencies of violence. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Cameron M "Powder" is a profound film that delves deep into the themes of otherness and the human capacity for both cruelty and compassion. The movie follows the story of Jeremy 'Powder' Reed, an albino young man with extraordinary intellect and paranormal powers, who faces prejudice and misunderstanding from the community due to his unique appearance and abilities. Two of the scenes in particular left a deep impression on me and have routinely come to mind over the last two decades since I first watched the film. A film for deep feelers and thoughtful viewers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/12/23 Full Review Base D The movie was so good as a kid and re watching now. Makes me love it even more and understand more of the movie, Showed it to my mother in law whos never seen it and she loved it. Great movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/23/23 Full Review Franlesky I Beautiful, it deals with social issues approached from a point of discrimination, social isolation, and a perspective where there is a rejection of what is different, even when this can be good for society, it is simply worth seeing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/15/23 Full Review Antonio T Maybe limited by it's time or budget, but a very captivated story. Nell Minow Movie Mom Rated: 4/5 Apr 18, 2003 Full Review Mike Clark USA Today Performed to the hilt by Flanery and filmed with conviction by Victor Salva, the movie is finally too solemn to survive its pushy musical strings. Rated: 2/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Powder has all of the elements of a successful fantasy, and none of the insights. It's a movie where intriguing ideas lie there on the screen, jumbled and unrealized.
