David Stratton The Australian Press Play isn’t in the same league as Capra’s masterpiece, but it’s a modestly engaging and handsomely packaged diversion. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 15, 2022 Full Review Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's a really cool idea, but I really wish these two were better actors. Jun 25, 2022 Full Review Brent Simon AV Club An evocative and altogether pleasant conjuring of the consuming nature of young love that serves as both a nice showcase for its up-and-coming stars and an exploration of the swirl of grief. Rated: B- Jun 24, 2022 Full Review Nadine Whitney Mr. Movie's Film Blog The soundtrack is good, if already a tad dated and sometimes distinctly on the nose (the cover of ‘Do You Realize??’ could have substituted for much of the script). Laura and Harrison’s unlikely story is diverting and moderately entertaining Sep 17, 2023 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz A so hip-it-hurts soundtrack also delivers the requisite “feels”, while the occasional well-chosen one-liner ensures things never get too maudlin. Rated: 3/5 Jul 29, 2022 Full Review Jim Schembri jimschembri.com Anchored by a very good performance from Rugaard (a largely unknown Danish actress), who works hard to sell the concept, the film manages to push past the obvious paradoxes of time travel and arrive at an emotionally satisfying end point that makes sense. Audience Member All we have to do is press play This is a romance/sci-fi that shows if we could rewind our lives could we hold onto our happiness? Laura lives on a Hawaiian island and meets/has a boyfriend Harrison They are both madly in love but things change when Harrison ends up getting into an accident and dies Laura then makes a startling discovery when she starts listening to a mix tape Harrison made for her; apparently it can transport her back in time 4 years She goes back to the point before Harrison’s death and desperately tries to warm him keeping him out of harm’s way But can she do it forever? I’m shocked it takes 34 min for the premise to kick off But the love story is effective and the time travel aspect gives it much needed depth Maybe the universe has a path for us all, we shouldn’t deviate away from what’s supposed to happen, do we just sit back and do nothing to hold onto the love of our lives?, in a way music transcends space and time, time can’t stop for all of us, if being in love makes us selfish just to hold onto what matters most then it shows how strong it is, we have to keep doing the things we love Second chances are rare but we do have to face that some things cannot be altered It’s a large cast of unknowns but it’s quite emotional given it deals with time paradoxes, the consuming nature of young love, and struggling to move on The ending is also quite the capper to this swirling range of emotions Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Alexandra Brooke F This young love story, definitely has some unexpected twists and turns. I think both leading actors did a great job, and I could feel the emotion behind it. I don't understand all the hate on this movie, maybe most people don't feel true love anymore and gotta play it off all cool? So yeah I think it's worth your time, and energy. Truly creative in a world that is seemingly becoming so bombarded with hate, it's a nice touch of love that we all need! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Samim A Time travel paradoxes are always a good idea, and not just for sci-fi. They’re intriguing and engaging, but unfortunately, all the actors, including the legendary Danny Glover, are so poor that viewers can’t really get into it Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Riley I Love the plot but it was honestly too draggy. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review Adolfo Y press play to see a good movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/06/23 Full Review Alexander F Good plot terribly executed Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
