Brad Wheeler Globe and Mail The likable indie flick will connect with both hip cynics and those with rosier hopes. Rated: 3/4 Apr 10, 2015 Full Review Bruce DeMara Toronto Star There's just enough kooky appeal and wit to make Pretend We're Kissing a romantic comedy that's also a cautionary tale. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 2, 2015 Full Review Di Golding Dear Cast and Crew Sadowski frames his shots thoughtfully and lingers on them. This approach overcomes both the usual indie style (shaky hand-held) and the clichéd rom-com conventions (soft-focus close ups). Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 11, 2018 Full Review Bill Chambers Film Freak Central This is a beautifully-photographed movie. I mean it. Sep 20, 2015 Full Review Norman Wilner NOW Toronto I'll allow that the lack of chemistry may well be the entire point of Pretend We're Kissing, but it's not executed in an engaging or illuminating way. It just hangs there while everyone does their best to steer around it. Rated: 2/5 Jun 25, 2015 Full Review Barry Hertz National Post Whatever your thoughts on the film's central up-and-down relationship, though, you can't help but fall in love with the way Sadowski frames the scenery. brendan n Once you get a little over the lead characters annoyance the film has a lot of heart. The quirky film never leaves you longing to get you into the next uncomfortable situation. Found this one on Netflix and liked it much more than I expected. I enjoy these character driven stories and while this may feel like a romantic comedy on the surface, this couldn't be any further away. I think most guys have been in these situations and seeing someone struggling in them is very hard to watch, in a good way though. 07-05-2017. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The lead actor was quite good, but this film is seriously overrated by critics. Large stretches were boring as hell. There was almost no plot. Awkward boy meets girl. They hit it off. Second date, no magic. The end. Loooong dull conversations, punctuated with an occasional interesting moment. I was more interested in his friendship with his female roommate than in his relationship with Jordan. Really a yawn. I fast forwarded 3 times through the dullness. Awkward realism is great, but taking me on a snooze fest was lazy of the writer and director. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I really could have passed on this one, but I always get trapped in rom-coms because I have to know how they end. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member The worst. Truly. The worst. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Definitely not great. The acting is pretty bad. But I did like that it was filmed in Toronto in a lot of familiar locations to me. The idea was okay/realistic and so was the journey, but the execution could have been better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
