Sonia (Renée Zellweger) is a married Hasidic woman in Brooklyn, N.Y., whose husband, Mendel (Glenn Fitzgerald), is inattentive. She begins having an affair with Mendel's brother, Sender (Christopher Eccleston), who allows her to work in his jewelry business. There, she meets a Puerto Rican artist and designer named Ramon (Allen Payne), with whom she finds a strong connection. When Sender learns of her affection for Ramon, he sets out to ostracize her from her husband and family.

This is a sad and somewhat/partially thought provoking drama about a wife who finds herself limited by her husbands faith and her prescribed role in the community. Rene Zellweger does reasonably well as the main character and its a reasonable film but there isn't really too much to say about it. Its not memorable and its no more than ok. I wouldn't recommend it as such, no.

Despite the well known actors, there was way too many problems in the plot! I wasn't sure if I was following a divorce, Jewish traditions, affair, or career driven woman! However, I can understand and respect a woman wanting to break away from tradition! What was with her brother?? Was she the only one who could see him? Did her soul leave her body to do so? Kind of confusing! Glad she found her strength and independence! Overall well directed and intriguing movie!

This sounded interesting to me... I insert the dvd, and find out it's in my hometown of Boro Park... then I'm looking at the lead male... its my former theatre troupe member, Glen Fitzgerald! This was an eyeopener for me; I know every ethnicity has all types... but this went into it deep... really liked... Renee Zellweger was awesome, and the ending message was terrific!!
