Critics Consensus

More slow-moving than Run Lola Run, this film nonetheless offers an intriguing storyline about love and fate.

Aug 24, 2001 Full Review Dan DiNicola The Daily Gazette (Schenectady, NY) Texture and atmosphere outdo the actual story, but there's not discounting the engaging presence of Potente. This film may not reach the high-water mark of [Run Lola Run], but it moves with the same, alluring flow. The obvious answer would be to slow things down, take a more introspective and less visceral approach. In short, do something different. Rated: B+ Jun 21, 2007 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member One of my favorite movies. The characters and story telling in this film is so magnetic. I couldn't look away for one second. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow! Brilliant German movie Franka is showing off her incredible skill set. Wonderful script, nice and slow, from creepy to funny, to scary to confusing to poetic and all the way back. Loved the twists and turns of the storyline. Highly recommended, very entertaining and moving! For all men under 20 a warning: No CGI, no naked girls, no car chases, only one big explosion, longer than average attention spans required. In short, no film for you, sorry Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member When you do the same thing over and over again you'll probably end up making a boring movie. And here is Tom Tykwers "The Princess and the Warrior" with Franka Potente and Benno Fürmann. It wouldn't be as bad without all the stereotypical styles of Tykwer. It's as if he works in a stasis without any new ideas. He doesn't deliver anything - ANYTHING - new here. There are the connections between strangers that tell us that everything is connected somehow (think "Cloud Atlas" and you see that Tykwer never has something new to tell), the moral dilemmas and all the personal challenges that are about nothing really. But if it's the first Tykwer film you watch, then you get a tense story about people who wanna break out of their normal life patterns told with slow dialogues and some very fine music. But for this you can basically watch every Tywker movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member This existential fairy tale is devastatingly beautiful... Like Kieslowski in magnificent colors--Curling and lingering in the mind... Stylish and Slick!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member My favorite movie by Tom Tykwer. Which is hard to say, because I love all of his movies. It's beautiful and breath taking. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A surreal story of a heist and an unwanted love. From the same team director actress of Run Lola Run Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
