David Lewis San Francisco Chronicle The filmmakers deserve credit for delving into a topic that has received scant attention in the movies, but a lot of it is old news (except, perhaps, for younger viewers). Rated: 2/4 Oct 27, 2011 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times Profoundly disturbing, as ambitious as it is provocative. Rated: 4/5 Sep 22, 2011 Full Review Joe Neumaier New York Daily News This thought-provoking but overlong doc wins points for being all-inclusive. Rated: 3/5 Aug 19, 2011 Full Review Brent Simon Shockya.com A shaggy look at the history of subliminal messaging and advertising in the United States that leaves one wanting for the pruning of a sensible editor. Rated: C- Sep 29, 2011 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru Serves as a vital wake-up call and manages to be simultaneously entertaining, provocative and enraging--just as all harsh truths, sans euphemisms, should be presented. Rated: 7.68/10 Sep 12, 2011 Full Review Ray Greene Boxoffice Magazine Some excellent interviews and a thoughtful global consideration of its topic more than offset an enervated tone. Audience Member Brilliant! I am so glad someone finally made a well executed documentary on subliminal messaging. Everyone should watch this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is a great insight to the media advertising world and the possibilities of manipulation through media. What a great movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Kudos to Jeff Warrick for taking us on this trip! Definitely a "fresh" perspective in my book! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Boldly reveals the way we are effected by media and our government. I personally have quite a list of people I want to share this with- A must-see for everyone. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member WOW. SOOO much good stuff in this film! So many "A-HA" moments. Made me sort of feel like I've been lied to all my life!! I have recommended this movie to most of my socially-conscious friends who haven't already been exposed to it. TWO THUMBS UP! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Subliminal messaging is everywhere, according to Jeff Warrick (director). Unless you've been living under a rock for all of your life, you know about at least a couple of the popular instances (eg the unfortunate erection in Little Mermaid). But Warrick takes this study to a whole new level. Limitation is not a word in his vocabulary, as he seems to explore every aspect of subliminal messaging in the media; from âsatanicâ? backwards messages in rock music, to government installations designed to use an array of sound frequencies to affect our moods. I'll admit that some of his examples seemed more like coincidences...Maybe that's the whole idea. In any case, Programming the Nation? is an interesting exploration into the world of subconscious decision making. Now I have to ask myself what will I do with this information? Apparently knowing isn't half the battle in this case because even if one is aware of the presence of subliminal messages, they still work (according to this film). Leave it to advertisements to sell things to you on multiple levels of consciousness. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
